Subjects Taught
8th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies

I attended the University of Mary Washington from 2003-2007 and earned my BA in English.  After several years of moving around the country due to my husband's military career, we settled in Jacksonville in 2010.  Shortly after I began taking classes through Saint Joseph's University's online teaching licensure and master's program.  I started working for Southwest Middle School in 2012 as a teacher assistant while I worked towards my license and, in 2014, I graduated with my teaching license and Master's in Secondary Education.  I am licensed to teach Language Arts and Social Studies.

I have been working at Southwest Middle School since 2012 as a teacher assistant.  I have had the pleasure of working with students from each grade level through various school activities.  I was an AVID tutor for all three years and worked with smaller groups on reading comprehension.  I had the pleasure of coaching softball and basketball my first 2 years at Southwest.  My student teaching was conducted at Brewster Middle School in the Spring of 2014.  My last two school years, 2015/16 and 2016/17, have been spent teaching both Language Arts and Social Studies in the 8th grade.

This upcoming 2017/18 school year will be my third year teaching, but it will mark my 6th year at Southwest Middle School as the first 3 years were spent as a Teacher Assistant for the school.  I am originally from New Jersey, though I don't have the accent everyone always asks about, and I fell in love with Virginia during my college years and lived there until I met my husband.  Thanks to his military career as a helicopter pilot, we have had the pleasure of living in Florida, California, and have called North Carolina home going on 7 years now.  We have two boys, Jack is 10 (1 year away from middle school!) and DJ who is 3.  Last school year we also welcomed our daughter, Scarlett, who will be 1 in September.  We also have a furry four legged daughter named Sparta.  I am in love with teaching and cannot wait for an amazing school year!
