Subjects Taught
7th Grade AVID Social Studies, 7th Grade Social Studies

I initially started at the University of Central Florida with an interest in Elementary Education. Once I moved to California, I enrolled and graduated from Chapman University in 2004 with a BA in Social Science - the emphasis on Sociology and History.

Misson Statement

Social studies is fundamental at the middle school level for students to learn and perfect the skills needed to become critical thinkers. The Social Studies Common Core and Essential Standards will instruct students on how to look at issues from various perspectives of society, not just their own, while including an awareness of current events. Through utilizing a global point of view, Social Studies will promote an understanding of the nation, human-environment interaction, cultural diversity, along with political and economic interests and issues. By introducing and reiterating the past, the student will have a stronger grasp of the present and consciousness for their future.

I came to Southwest Middle School in the 2005-2006 school year teaching 8th Grade Social Studies and running the Plato Lab. I bounced between seventh and eighth grade over the last few years.  This is my twelth school year teaching Social Studies and I am honored to be a member of the Southwest family.

Born in Port Jefferson, NY, I was raised in a military family. Because of this, I have lived in 8 states and one additional country.  My father was a medic/recruiter in the Army and my mother was a homemaker.  I went to 13 different schools before I even graduated high school!  I have three younger sisters (one born in Utah, another in Germany and the baby sister in Indiana). I finished high school at Mainland High in Daytona Beach, FL and went to college in Florida and California. I have traveled across the country including vacations in Japan and Italy.  I have two step-children who live in Vermont, Keeley-19 and Joey-17, I myself have two daughters, Lily-age 12 and Hollyn- age 11. I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science and look forward to obtaining my Master's degree in counseling the next two years.  I love everything about teaching and all that being in school involves.
